Jaime Cortinas (reminds us of acoustic Springsteen) and Pake Rossi, both genuine, harmonica-blowing Texas-grown singer-songwriters, swapped songs at Pacha November 7. Click on their names to check out their influences and some samples of their music. They sounded great!

Drew and Violet married in November and have moved to Albuquerque. Bon voyage and best wishes from the Pacha family!

Check out the new t-shirts created by ex-barista Drew: ‘Pacha has a posse’ and ‘Corporate Free’!

Farewell and bon voyage to two of our favourite baristas, Ricky and Emily. We ‘celebrated’ their departure last summer at Fonda San Miguel. Both of them can still be seen at Pacha ... ‘you can check out any time you like, but ...’:

On Tuesday, July 28 we closed at 3 PM so that the all-Austinite cast and crew of the new indie film Sunken Garden, directed by John Fiege, could shoot a scene at Pacha. Check out their websites! We even fed them dinner. They are terrific people and it was fascinating to watch them work. Movie-making is painstaking and patient. The Assistant Director had to fill in the cast as a barista, and he took a crash course from Marjorie on the art of cappuccino preparation. Marjorie herself made a cameo, looking as busy as ever—we didn’t go home until after 1 AM! Let’s back this film!

To celebrate our extended hours, we hosted live music for the first time, on Friday, July 17, 2009:

The Apple Trio! This precocious and talented threesome are all students at the fine Arts Academy at McCallum High School. The group began as an effort to raise money for an orchestra trip to New York to perform at Carnegie hall, but clearly it has turned into something much more. They started out playing Beatles and Led Zeppelin covers on street corners, and eventually began to collaborate on some originals. After performing a couple of times and getting some recordings out, they decided to commit to their music and to each other. Now they are The Apple Trio! (If you click on the link, you can hear samples of their original music. Highly recommended! David especially likes ‘Something New’.)

MotherPacha says you’ve got to hear music in our intimate setting. We loved hosting this group! What a gorgeous and original sound. Watch this space for upcoming Saturday evening gigs.

Cheers—

David & Marjorie

!Live Music on Saturdays!

A continuing series of Central Texas songwriters:

Tonight! March 6, 7-9 PM: Marshall Anderson

January 23: The place was really buzzing for Shad Blair.

January 16: Tex Smith sang songs from his eponymous new CD.

January 9, 2010: Mark Allan Atwood sang songs with style from his new CD, How Country. Hugely entertaining.

On Friday, December 11: Dave McCullough gave us a lesson in jazz guitar; let’s hear that again!

November 28, we had a Thanksgiving surprise! Stephanie Briggs played an outstanding set, and her music (with full band) is now on the Pacha playlist.
November 21: Pete Garner of The Generals played a solo acoustic set. Nice pickin’! Soulful singing.

On November 14, HalleyAnna Finlay and Victor Holk treated us to a set of country- and folk-inspired originals:

(Click on the names to go to MySpace pages with free .mp3 samples.) The previous evening, The Apple Trio returned with some great new songs and a new look; when they are all present, it looks like they will be a quintet.
